A Quick Guide for Schools

5 features of our work that produce a unique experience for schools.

1. A PORTABLE THEATRE

2. ACCESSIBILITY

Our goal is to create theatre that is accessible to the widest possible range of young audiences.

3. HOW IT WORKS

Performances are experienced by one class at a time.

Typical visits last 2/3 days. In larger schools they can take up to a week.

Each performance has a built in “post show session” where children have the opportunity to ask questions.

4. EXPERIENCE

We are trained educators and have been creating theatre experiences for young audiences for 36 years.

Everything we do is geared toward creating excellent art for children.

We literally bring a Theatre to the school.

Our dome shaped calico tent is a fully functioning theatre space.

The Dome allows us to employ sophisticated lighting effects and create immersive soundscapes.

“We have had many visitors in our school, but Mimika Theatre really was extra special and I would highly recommend other schools to find a temporary home for the magical dome!”

Headmaster - Warwick

“There are good experiences in abundance and then there is Mimika Theatre - In a class of it’s own - such precision and style - the scale so right for the children - such a carefully presented experience... Come back soon!”

Head Teacher Norwich

“I can honestly say that I found Landscapes to be one the most exciting, moving, educational performances I have ever seen and I now know what people mean when they talk about “awe” and“wonder”. I saw it on every single child’s face as we watched this incredible show! All this without a work being spoken.”

Yr 1 Teacher - Bolton

“Wonderful! This is the best performance I have ever seen. My children were all totally engaged. The language that resulted from the experience was quite amazing. I am particularly looking forward to developing this in their written  and art work. Thank you for a fantastic experience.”

Yr 2 Teacher - Doncaster

“Year 6 were entranced by the show - it was purely magical, gripping all from the class. A great starting point for literacy work and DT projects. I would strongly recommend it.”

Yr 6 Teacher - Ripon

Before a visit each teacher is sent a comprehensive set of “Teacher’s Notes” to help them prepare their children for the experience.

“Thank you so much for giving us such a fabulous experience. The children enjoyed every moment of it. The language the experience created has been brilliant! The children wanted to stay in the tent, they loved it so much.”

5. MAGIC

Throughout our website there are quotes from professional critics, teachers, head teachers, members of the public and from children. You will discover that the word “magical” is often used. This is not accidental.

For many children who experience our performances this is their

first encounter with professional theatre, we feel

it is our responsibility to ensure that

this first contact should be

something special.

“It does not need me to tell you what a magical experience your theatre provided for the pupils last week. Rapt attention and gasps of wonder as each successive animal performed its part must have told you already. Don’t bother to ask if we want to have your next theatre production in school - simply book us in and let us know the date.”
